Ride Safe

I have compiled a motorcycle safety list for other bikers. Some of these are common sense tips. Some of these could save your life. As a biker, I know the importance of following motorcycle safety. As an attorney, I know that your compliance with the laws can be beneficial in your case.

  • Never, under any circumstances, drink and drive. Drunk driving is illegal. It impairs your judgment and puts you and others in harm's way.
  • Wear protective gear such as pants, jacket, shorts, t-shirts, motorcycle helmets, motorcycle boots and fingerless gloves in the summer.
  • Do not operate the motorcycle if you are not capable of it.
  • Perform regular maintenance checks on your bike including checks on your tire pressure, lights, brakes, cables, chains, oil, gas, fuels and mirrors.
  • If you are riding in a group, make sure you ride staggered at two seconds apart. Be aware of where people are around you. Do not ride in a vehicle's blind spot
  • Be vigilant of foreign items on the road and other road hazards such as tar filling, potholes, mud, oil, dirt, gravel and ice.
  • Take frequent breaks.
  • Remember, when it rains, the first few minutes on the road are the most dangerous. Oils and other debris can float on the surface of the road, making it slick.
  • Always carry identification, your contact information and any pertinent medical information such as your blood type or any allergies. If you are injured in a motorcycle accident and knocked unconscious, this ID and information can help out the medical responders.
